An astounding point in our parsha is the despicable behavoir of Paraoh.  We are accustomed to observing it as an issue of sinning  or lack of repenting.  However, the outstanding point is the obnoxious behavior of the committment and repeatedly just completely ignoring his committment and just going against his word.

Paroah, Paroah, once, twice, again, no shame.  Paroah is a manifestation of the yetzer harah.  Hashem give us the strength and the wisdom for our success in our trials in life.

Have a wonderful Shabbos.

I’m sure the question bothers us all, how is it possible for greatest of the greatest, Yitzchok Avinu, to  be so mistaken about Esav.  He loved him dearly.  Perhaps we can say that Esav, with all his faults, had a positive side to him that was truly very great.  This means in chessed, in tefilah and Torah.  With chessed–his great mesiras nefesh in treating lepers with repulsive puss infections.  Tefilah, Yitzchok seeing him davening with tremendous devotion; Torah–trying very hard to connect with the tradition of Shem.  Esav had his faults which he hid but there certainly was what for Yitzchok to love.  Yitzchok also loved and appreciated Yaakov.  When it came apparent that he gave the brachos to Yaakov it was clear to him that it went through Hashgacha to the right one.

This is a great path to understand and appreciate Yitzchok Avinu, one of the greatest giants of the universe.

Have a wonderful Shabbos and a magnificent and fulfilling Chodesh.

Moiradik, Moiradik, who is Lot, who is this Lot, Avraham adopted him as his own and in ruchniyus he was his closest talmid anjd likewise in riches.  The abundance caused conflict; Avraham tested him and gave him the choice who should move.  He should have broken down and cried–move from the Rebbe, instead HE moved to Sodom with the reshaim.  There he was captured by the Kidarlaomer episode.  Avraham put himself out tin great battle to save him.  Again Sodom was being destroyed for their great wickedness and with awesome mesiras nefesh he was saved from among the wicked he chose to live with.  One insight we have is the episode of his awesome act of hachnosas orchim with the Malachimj and his great mesiras nefesh to save them.  This reveals explicitly that there was certainly true greatness in him which Avraham certainly connected to and realized.

Have a wonderful and significant Shabbos.

Parshas Lech Lecha (5778)

15:5 When Hashem called Avraham outside to the stars and made the promise for progenity, Rashi in one explanation related that despite Avraham’s star observation, he would not be zocheh to a children;’ Hashem informjed him that that the letter “hey” would be added to his name thus changing his star status and would be subject to a new mazel, and likewise Sarah.  They would now be zochech to their great dream of producing Klal Yisroel.

It is a little difficult for us to comprehend that one letter in his name should have such significance.  Perhaps we can explain the name is actually a real reflection of the soul of the person and when Hashem changed Avram’s name it manifested a real change in Avram, of course for greatness.  The star factor was true but it was backed by Avram’s new true greatness.

Have a wonderful, significant  Shabbos.

Parshas Noach (5778)

by Mordechai Dolinsky

When Noach received the instructions from Hashem to evacuate the taiva (8:16-18) four times the ewxpression “itcha” is unusally used to include all; your family “itcha”, the animals…the insect world…and then again to show that it was all acoomplished.  This was to demonstrate that they were under the strict orders of Noach for evacuation.  One thought for this might be this taiva had the awesome purpose of saving and preserving the world, mankind and life.  It was Hashem’s tool and it achieved a tremendously high level of holiness and had to be evacuated like the chatzotzros of Moshe Rabeinu.

Noach, Noach–you achieved for us the zchus of life and existence.  Appreciate it and use it for the utmost.

Have a wonderful Shabbos and a successful and fulfilling month–good Chodesh.

3:19:  Adam has been sent from Gan Aden and his life’s lot, program and agenda is revealed; b’zayas apecha.  Adam was created from the earth and eventually will return to that very earth– in the period between he will be reoccupied working and tilling again that very earth.  What can we learn and grow from this?  What is the deep message?

The Mesilas Yesharim says that since we are created from and made up of adama in order to succeed we must harness our strengths and energies to rise above otherwise we will surely succumb to the power and influence of the earth.

Hashem should give us the insight and the strength.

Have a wonderful and inspiring Shabbos Bereishis and it should lead to a fulfilling Chodesh.

31:16  “kom HaAm v’azvani:–the pasuk is foretelling KLAL Yisroel’s disloyalty turning to strange gods, which is discouraging.  Perhaps we can understand this as subtle belief in these strange gods which Hashem holds us responsible for and for this HE reacts as if He is not here for us.  How much we must be sensitive to this.

Have a wonderful last Shabbos of the year.

29:3 Hashem gave today the heart, the eyes and the ears to have a true insight for the miracles and chessed of Hashem to cling to Him.  Moshe knows this, Rashi says, since Klal Yisroel was overly concerned regarding their absolute right in the future for Torah.  Two tremendous insights and lessons; firstly for one to come to really appreciate the great signs and miracles one must have a special gift from Above, something we would think is completely up to us.  Secondly, Moshe recognized this gift from their outstanding yearning for Torah.  This is also an awesome lesson that the true recognition of miracles must lead to a great yearning for Torah.

Have a wonderul, meaningful Shabbos and Elul.

7:12 Rashi: Why is it so critically important and imperative to keep the “kalos”, the ones seemingly not so important?  Because it is all of the greatest;  since it is all the dvar Hashem.

Have a wonderful, meaningful Shabbos.
