Was Yaakov Avinu such a batlan that he couldn’t deal and outsmart Lavan’s devious wicked ways; such wickedness, setting up the wrong bride. Yaakov made his hishtadlus and left the rest for the Ribbono Shel Olam and because of this we have today a Klal Yisroel. Don’t be too smart, Hashem is with us.

Have a wonderful Shabbos and hatzlach for all of Klal Yisroel.

A very deep thought…Yado ochezes b’aikev Eisav. Yaakov was named because he was grasping the heel of Eisav. Yaakov’s name is his essence, named after Eisav’s body and the lower most part of his body; a dependency on Eisav.

Yaakov successfully got the brachos from Yitzchok. V’yiten l’cha….and on it we life and exist. These brachos was in essence the brachos that were really meant for Eisav. We are living on the brachos of Eisav.

The significance of all this is very deep.

Have a wonderful Shabbos and a wonderful Chodesh and we should be zocheh to receive the birchas Hashem and see Moshiach tzidkeinu.

(18:18 and the following pesukim) The pasuk gives significance to Avraham’s great mission. “KI yedativ lemaan asher yetzaveh es bonov etc. — the foundation of foundations- Avraham’s central purpose and then connects it so significantly which follows his awesome appeal for the salvation of the wicked Sedom. This is a revelation of the key of his greatness which was the love and concern for every human being.

On his last Shabbos Reb Nosson Tzvi Finkel, the Rosh Yeshiva of the biggest Yeshiva in the world said out of context – the tzavaa of the Mirrer Yeshiva is ish echad b’lev echad.

Have a wonderful Shabbos.

Hashem selects Avraham, no p.r., no fanfare, just sincerity. He is committed to search for the truth and completely committed for the outcome of the finding. This is for us a model for life.

Have a wonderful Shabbos.

Parshas Nitzavim – Vayelech (5771)

31:7 Rashi explains that Moshe tells Yehoshua and insists that he confers with the zekanim. However Hashem Himself instructs Yehoshua to do as he understands. This can be explained that Moshe had this special Siyata DiShmaya of a oneness with Hashem and he could project that he was unique; the only one that would have it. Only Hashem Himself knew that He would give it to Yehoshua.

Let us cling to our leaders for their Divine conection.

29:18 It is shocking the midas hadin for the individual that is guilty of hefkairus and prikas ohl. How much we have to have a sensitivity not to be guilty of this in this non-conventional, rebellious generation.

Rav Miller used to say all’s well that ends well — make this your best Shabbos.

In our parsha there is the viduy of bikurim, the foundation of our service to Hashem, hakoras hatov, gratitude. This is appropriate to prepare for Rosh HaShana.

Elul is the time for intensive dedication and in this present point of history more than ever we must attempt to overcome the great thick walls that separate us one from another.

We must also get close to Hashem by davening with a special inspiration, enthusiasm and outward oval expression.

After the Churban we have parshas Voeschanan which brings us down to the basics of the recognition of our belief in Hashem as the Creator and the purpose of our perpetuating this belief in the world.  Committing ourselves to fight all the false ideals of darkness and yearning and hoping and acting to reveal the true Malchus Shomayim.

Have a wonderful Shabbos and a true fulfillment of Shabbos Nachamu.

Perhaps we can deal with the apparent contradiction between 33:3 which says that Klal Yisrael went out of Egypt “biyad ramah” and the very next pasuk which says that the Egyptians were burying their first born, the victims of makas bechoros, which seems to imply that Bnai Yisroel were enabled to leave because the Egyptians were preoccupied with their tragedies and awesome sadness.  The finality and strength of the makas bechoros was the instrumental factor for the decision to release Klal Yisroel.  This was the supreme clarity of Divine rule and control.  It wasn’t just death.  What kind of plague can effect just the first-born and who knows who the first born are, the intimacy of intimacy.  The Creator of the world that knows and controls it all.  Makas Bechoros was the greatest testimony of Hashem’s sovereignty and as Klal Yisroel went out “biyad ramah” with the Egyptians preoccupied with the victims was not to enable Klal Yisroel to sneak out but rather was the greatest demonstration of the Malchus Shomayim manifested in this makah.

We should be zocheh to see the greatest demonstration of Malchus Shomayim with the geula sh’layma bikarov.  Have a wonderful Shabbos and a month of geula and yeshua.

Our sedra opens with its intricate ordinances of vows immediately spelling out something very striking. (30:3)” Ish ki yidar….he shall not defile his words.” The next pasuk “V’isha “, laws concerning the woman, extends for the next 15 pasukim. 15 pasukim–amazing. Women, for whatever reason, because of their essence, feel the need of the support of the nedarim.

The lesson is that we should always be sensitive to our particular spiritual needs and harness and recruit the available auxiliaries for our support.

Have a wonderful Shabbos and see the geula b’karov.
